Ernst Ludwig Kirchner

Kirchner is associated with the German Expressionist movement, responsible for such beautiful monstrosities as:

Kirchner was a founding member of the artist group Die Brücke, or "The Bridge."

Here is a painting he made of the group:

Kirchner was deeply affected by his experience as a soldier in WWI. Here is his "Self Portrait as a Soldier":

Kirchner's work often makes use of clashing colors:

When the Nazis came to power, his work was deemed "degenerate" and was banned.

About Me: A self portrait

I like to think of myself as someone who cares deeply about things

I care about the wellbeing of non-human animals. I care about the far future of humanity. I care about moral and technological progress.

Methods of Portraiture

One method of making portraits that we weren't allowed to use in class is the grid method:

Gridded portraits are accurate but artificial looking. They are less expressive.

A different way of making a portrait is by collaging. These collage portraits are by Maxim Ksuta:

I like these because they make the eye switch from looking at the individual art pieces and the whole face.

Michael Landy

I will begin with some words of wisdom from youtube user BigBlue:

"What a fucking loser. This guy is literally the catalyst for climate change - stupid prick." Michael Landy is a British artist known for several high profile performance art pieces. In 2003, he completed a series of 12 etchings collectively titled "Nourishment." They feature a variety of weeds. Image result for michael landy nourishment
This is "Creeping Buttercup." I really like the optimistic and happy vibe it gives off. I also appreciate how he almost makes the weed look like an alien plant-something unlike anything we have seen before. HERB ROBERT This is "Herb Robert." I like the subtle splash of color. For a moment, I wasn't sure whether it was colored or not! SHEPHERD'S PURSE 1 This is "Shepherd's Purse." The lines are clear and sharp, yet organic.
