Birdnesses

Constantin Brancusi 's "Bird in Space" is birdness at its most abstract: pure form
Gill Brown uses linear curves to create the impression of an ostrich.

This sculpture from an unknown artist uses a solid piece of material and defies expectations of what makes something a  bird by not including wings, and giving the impression of flight by including a constant upward tension.

Paper Mache

Paper Mache is an art form that involves the creation of a composite material filled with paper or

pulp, and bound with an adhesive. It is often used to make sculptural pieces in arts and craft.

The first step in creating Paper Mache is preparation. There are several different kinds of pastes that are used, including flour-based ones and glue-based ones. A papery material like newspaper is also needed.

After the paste is made by mixing the glue or flour with water into a smooth consistency, pieces of the papery material are dipped into the paste. These pieces are often strip shaped.

Finally, the pieces are overlaid onto a base and left to dry. This process is repeated a few times in layers.

After the paper mache is finished, painting and decorating may proceed.

Book Art

Guy Laramee is a Canadian artist who turns books into intricately detailed landscapes, mountains, and caves.

In this sculpture, he has carved out the insides of a stack of books, and created the illusion of a roomy cave

He uses large numbers of books sometimes, like in this sculpture of a canyon made out of a collection of many booksCarved Books I like the way he is able to transform familiar objects into works of fantasy
